Find the daily secret word by navigating the alphabetical order of the American English dictionary. Every guess narrows the area where the answer can be found.
The up arrow means that the secret word appears before “zoo” alphabetically. The large distance and yellow color show that this guess is still far from the answer.
The down arrow means that the secret word appears after “book”. Only 12 alphabetical positions separate the words, so the clue is green. A brighter green means that you are closer.
A distance of zero means that the guess is exactly the secret word. The arrow is then replaced by the success symbol.

The distance is the number of alphabetical positions between your guess and the answer. Large distances use shades of yellow, which gradually turn green as you approach the secret word.
American English words of three letters or more are accepted, including inflected forms and plurals present in the American English dictionary. A repeated guess is rejected and does not increment the number of guesses.
You win by entering the exact secret word. There is no guess limit.
A new secret word becomes available every day at midnight, New York time. Progress is saved in this browser until the date changes.
OTadle is a web game platform offering daily challenges, created by Ayoub Yaqine. It brings together word, letter, number and card games that run directly in the browser.
The algorithmic design of OTadle is an idea by Ayoub Yaqine, inspired by his experience with games such as Wordle, Nerdle, Mastermind and other deduction games. He imagined more complex variants that combine several mechanics and require different forms of reasoning.
The first version of the code was developed by Ayoub Yaqine. The project is now maintained by Codex.
Every letter challenge is backed by years of linguistic research. OTadle does not choose from improvised word lists: its dictionaries were prepared from established research resources.
